The secret of the...Magic bullet!

Intrinsicly Corporate (yours truly!), the phrase "goal setting" is exhausted with over-use and under-performance, suggesting inflexibile and misinformed paperwork, prepared and argued upon once a year, then shelved till its time to "explain"...variances that is!

Re-learning how to approach "goal-getting" from the point of view of where we are in our "stages of change" , re-introduced me to an extremely useful concept, and answered a nagging question that was brought up in an earlier post regarding the "source" of our ambitions!

In short, the act of "writing down our plans" can only be effective "AFTER" the build-up of a certain level of "commitment" and "feelings" around the outcome.

And, as "commitment" is the thermo-indicator of the "relevance" that a certain GOAL has to our "values", finding ourselves constantly snuggled between "wanting to change" and "preparing for it", questions not just the level of such a commitment, but also the relevance that those goals have to our motivational system...

  1. That is very true. I've talked to my friend the other day, She's very effective in achieving her goals, and she said: "you've got to be focused", It seems that "commitment" and "feelings" an the whole motivational system you are writing about has a lot to do with it. All the best, talk to you soon,

  5. habibti enti..you say i'm a determined person well look at you :)
i think what keeps me focused is viewing the target I want to reach or the achievement…
i have developed a habit since I was a kid and I think it’s helping somehow, it’s day dreaming.
Whenever I want something so bad I keep on picturing it, imagining all the details related to it, how it looks, feels, smells…etc…and I keep on rewinding this in my mind over and over again, adding another detail here or there every now and then….another thing is breaking my big goal into small, achievable, time framed an realistic goals, so achieving them keeps me motivated :)
i'm not saying i always work by a plan and i'm always that focused..of course i have those days when i'm down and don't feel like concentrating on anything...but i try not to let it last for so long..
